  • Communication: The overall culture of your business can dictate how your employees interact not only with one another, but with customers as well. It also dictates the relationship between the leadership of the company and the staff.
  • Work environment: The workplace is a physical representation of your company’s personality. If it is a tense environment, you can bet that your company will project that tense attitude.
  • Conflict resolution: While disagreements are inevitable, your culture can have a tremendous impact on how both you and your staff resolve disputes and move forward with the tasks at hand.
  • Dress code: This is why businesses like banks institute a more comprehensive dress code. There is a thought that the way employees dress sets the tone for the rest of the business and dictates interaction between your employees and customer base.

These Things Don’t Equal Culture

There are some strong misconceptions about what company culture is. Having ping pong tables in the breakroom, weekly happy hours, unlimited vacation time, the ability to work from home, and similar things are more perks than anything else.

While these are certainly incentives that can have an impact on the overall culture of your business, they are in no way the culture itself. Understanding this will let you focus on the kind of culture that you want in your business, working to establish that culture in a far more effective manner.
