Having success in your real estate business is directly related to your ability to build and strengthen relationships with your clients. Relationships are built on trust, community presence, and emotional connections, and clients are more willing to pull the trigger and make the deal happen when they have confidence in you.

Building Trust

Building trust is important in any relationship, but it is particularly important in real estate. When a client hasn’t developed trust for you, he or she is less likely to make a decision and close the deal. You can build trust through educating your client about the local real estate market. When you have valuable and relevant information, your client will begin to view you as an expert in your area. Let the client know about the neighborhood, the schools, market values of homes, and any other information that is relevant to them.

Build a Community Presence

Even though your business is real estate, you can build trust by becoming present in the community. Use social media to share what you do. Whether you are involved in helping animals or finding a cure for cancer, develop a presence so that people feel like they know more about you. You might even meet some of your future clients through a shared interest. Common interests, especially fighting for a common cause, can create an instant connection between people.

Be Genuine

If you spend all of your time obsessing about the sale, it will be a complete turn off to most clients. Most people see through the sales pitch, and many of them will never close the deal because of it. Instead of sounding like a salesperson, be genuinely interested in your clients’ needs. Find out what they want, what matters to them, and get to know them. Reach out with a card during the holidays. Remember that buying a house is a big decision that dictates where this family will live and raise their children. Respect the enormity of this decision, and try to learn what would work best for your client. Be genuine and foster an emotional connection with your clients.
